Carey later intended to re-release Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel as a remix album under the title Angels Advocate, which would have consisted of remixes of the standard songs with featured artists. "Up Out My Face" was written and produced by Mariah Carey, Tricky Stewart and The-Dream, for Carey's twelfth studio album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (2009). A music video was released nevertheless and was directed by Nick Cannon, Carey's then husband, which also received positive reviews.
